What is Google's AI mode?

What is Google's AI mode, and why Google is brining AI everywhere in Search. It will affect the earnings of publishers from where Google steal the content to show AI answers. Afterall, all the AI knowledge base has been constructed from the information available from the internet. Isn't it like stealing? Didn't expect this from Google?

Yes, Google AI Mode will curate results (why use the term curate? It's indeed stealing the hard work of the publishers) from what we used to call blue links and give a summarised answer at the top. Google claims that the summarised answer will have links to the posts that it scraped the data from, but who's going to scroll down and click on the links? Or for that matter, who'll click the links withing the summarised answers?
The top publishers like Daily mail or HubSpot have reported over 4% decline in their CTR.. So what we can say about the normal publishers?

AI Mode is another tab in Google that will be purely including the AI into the SERP. In fact, it will be replacing the traditional SERP as it seems. It will be pretty bad for website owners as they will get less and less traffic from Google organic search.
